Meet our 2017 – 2018 Ambassador Contestants

This Friday, Sept. 1, the Ambassador of the Fair competition will take place at the Mitchell and District Arena, with three excellent contestants, looking to succeed our current Ambassador Nicole Sykes. First, we’d like to extend our appreciation to Nicole for her hard work and the way she represented the Mitchell and District Agriculture Society, with grace, humour and energy. Thank you Nicole, your work is almost done and we’re very grateful! The contestants are arranged in alphabetical order.

Laura Skinner– sponsored by Goulds Women’s Institute

Laura, 18 of Mitchell is the daughter of Kevin and Pauline Skinner. Skinner graduated from Grade 12 and was an Ontario Scholar of St. Michael Catholic Secondary School in Stratford and has two older brothers, Jake and Sam. A dietary aide at Ritz Lutheran Villa and has been active in the Dairy and Vet 4H clubs of Mitchell. Laura was the assistant captain of Stratford Midget girls hockey team last season and plays fastball with the Fullarton midgets. She was a Deputy Prime Minister of Student Council at St. Michael last year and she enjoys playing the piano. Other interests include working on the family dairy farm, being physically active, travelling and volunteering within the community.

Kayla Terpstra Ambassador Contestant

Kayla Terpstra– sponsored by Monkton Lions Club

Kayla, 18 of Monkton is the daughter of Angela and Jeremy Smith, and Steve Terpstra.

Kayla graduated Grade 12 at Listowel District Secondary School and well be attending the University of Guelph for Child, Youth and Family this fall. She has four brothers: Dylan, Trayton, Brock and Jack and one sister Avery.

A camp Counselor at Galbraith Optimist Camp for Kids, Terpstra plays soccer for the U18 Wallace team and was involved in Ontario Students Against Drunk Driving (OSAID). Other interests are reading and spending spare time with friends and family.

Elisabeth Van Bakel– sponsored by Mitchell Rotary

Elisabeth, 18 of Dublin is daughter of Kevin and Lisa Van Bakel.

Elisabeth attended St. Michael’s Catholic Secondary School in Stratford and has a sister Sarah and a brother Henry.

Sarah is employed by Family Paradise campground and Godfather’s Pizza. She enjoys horseback riding, tennis and the Rotary Youth Exchange program. Her other interests include travelling and agriculture.
